Despite being out of the league since his stint with the Los Angeles Clippers in the 2022-23 season, John Wall is ready for an NBA return.

During his appearance on "Podcast P," the 33-year-old made an impassioned plea for another opportunity to play in the league. John doubled down on his willingness to take a lesser role , even if it means being a Udonis Halsem-like veteran on a roster full of youngsters.

"I think you need those vets in the locker room," Wall said . "That's what teams are missing. I'm willing to accept any role it is to be on a team. If it's playing, not playing, being in the Udonis Halsem role. Anything like that. I just wanna be in an NBA jersey again because I know how much the game means to me, how much I still have left… helping the team trying to be a coach or be a mentor, I'm willing to accept that."

    Playing a Derrick Rose-esque role?

While Wall lacks the championship pedigree that made Haslem invaluable in mentoring players like Tyler Herro and Duncan Robinson, his experience as a former NBA star could prove beneficial in a similar veteran role—something like Derrick Rose in Memphis, who, despite not spending much time on the court, has been a big asset for their team.

Injuries, especially in the latter phase, have significantly impacted John's career. Wall was limited to only 32 games in the 2018-19 campaign due to a left heel injury. His recovery was further complicated by an infection and a subsequent Achilles tear from an accident at home, causing him to miss the entire 2019-20 season.

Afterward, a hamstring injury in 2020-21 made him disposable, as the Houston Rockets shifted their focus on developing young players like Jalen Green. After being released by the Rockets, the five-time All-Star signed with the Clippers and struggled to find his spot in the starting lineup.

Wall has been through it all, from being second in the Rookie of The Year race to finishing seventh in the MVP race to being wanted by no team in the 2023-24 season. That's why he could be a great mentor, especially for young teams starting to figure out the NBA.

    Does Wall deserve a contract?

Given that Wall hasn't played more than 42 games in any of the past six NBA seasons, it's unlikely any team will sign him, especially for his on-court capabilities.

However, if a team needs a strong veteran presence to keep players focused on a common goal, Wall could be the perfect guy. He's openly talked about battling depression and making a comeback, knowing what it takes to love the game of basketball. Perhaps it's time for an NBA organization to give him a chance.
