Outages remain, power restored to more than 100,000 customers

After major storms thrashed several West Michigan counties , Consumers Energy reports power has been restored to more than 100,000 customers.

Latest reports show 2 injuries were linked to fallen trees.

Over 450 crews worked through the night repairing damage caused by 70mph winds, lightning, and hail.

Local officials remind everyone the work is best left to the professionals when power lines could be present.

"We want to ensure that no one is clearing any debris off a roadway or anything along that so that they're not causing damage to themselves," underlined Sp/Lt Michelle Robinson of the Michigan State Police.

Consumers Energy says training for 16-hour days and extreme conditions doesn't make restoration efforts in these cases any less dangerous.

"It's uprooted trees, the full branches down. And that makes even getting into the area where the outage may be very hard for our crews," Consumers Energy spokesperson, Katie Carey told us live on air Wednesday morning.

Crews are exercising caution to avoid tragedy and thank everyone for their patience.

"There are some areas in Muskegon county that have 30 plus poles that are snapped and that's going to take more time for our crews to get out there and repair," explained Carey.

The company says the majority of remaining outages in Muskegon and Kent counties should be remedied by midday Thursday, though work may continue in the hardest-hit areas through Thursday night.

West Michigan isn't the only area hit hard by this cell. The Consumers Energy outage map shows thousands without power along the northern Saginaw Bay shore.

"Northeast Michigan is unfortunately going to be our hardest hit areas and we'll be the longest to restore," Carey told us. "We hope to get the majority of folks back on by midday tomorrow with a few heading into the overnight into Friday morning."

Consumers Energy is providing free food and water to those without power.
