“A little nonsense, now and then, is relished by the wisest men.” Those words, spoken by eccentric candy maker Willy Wonka, give a hint of what to expect when Main Street Theatre’s 2024 annual Summer Children’s Workshop production of “Willy Wonka, Junior” which debuted June 21.

The play is based on author Roald Dahl’s novel, 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, in which the lives of a poor young boy and his family are forever changed by an eccentric and unpredictable candy maker. Audiences can expect the unexpected, where nothing is what it seems to be.

In the workshop, enrolled children, supervised by adults, fill all the roles of the production, from building sets and gathering costumes to controlling lights and sound and acting onstage.
