Both North and South Stokes’ boys’ and girls’ basketball programs hosted their annual camps during the week of June 10.

South Stokes hit record numbers with 175 campers with North Stokes totaling between 50-60 kids each day.

“I’m very pleased with the turnout for camp this year, which was a record for us,” said boys’ basketball coach Jason Clark. “All of our basketball players (boys and girls) did a great job instructing kids and developing life-long relationships with the campers that attended. It was another great camp in the books!”

North Stokes’ boys basketball coach, David Anderson, echoed the same for their programs.

“I was really pleased with camp. The kids listened well, brought a lot of energy, and competed hard each day. We worked on offense and defense daily and then played various competitive games afterwards. Our high school players helped run the stations and I was really proud of them as well. It was a chance for them to have some responsibility and develop communication skills.”

South Stokes’ camp ran from June 10-13 starting at 8:30 a.m. and lasting until 1 p.m. each day. The 125 boys and 50 girls broke up into four different groups according to age and worked on the fundamentals of dribbling and shooting. After working through each station, the groups would then move to game play competition.

The $100 registration covered a t-shirt, basketball, water bottle, and snacks for each camper, and then a pizza party on the last day of camp.

North Stokes’ camp was from June 11-13 from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. with varsity players assisting during the camp.

The day consisted of working on different facets of the game including ball handling, passing, dribble moves, shooting, and much more. Each camper received a t-shirt and instruction for their $50 fee.
