Kevin Feige Confirms Fantastic Four Is an Alternate Universe Period Piece

Ever since the first piece of artwork was revealed from The Fantastic Four, fans have been guessing whether the film takes place in an alternate reality. The concept art showed its impressive cast adorned in garments from the 1960s, leading many to believe it was going to be a period piece. Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige has now confirmed that it is indeed the case.

Appearing on the newly launched Official Marvel Podcast , Feige confirmed that the film will be a period piece, and even teased its alternate universe setting.

"Yes, yes, very much so. It is a period and there was another piece of art we released with Johnny Storm flying in the air, making a '4' symbol and there was a cityscape in the corner of the image," he said. "There were a lot of smart people, who noticed that that cityscape didn't look exactly like the New York that we know, or that existed in the '60s in our world. Those are smart observations, I'll say."

We won't have to wait much longer to find out more about the movie, as Feige has confirmed that it will start shooting the week after San Diego Comic-Con in July. While the film may start on the ground, it should take the team to outer space as it has cast cosmic characters like the Silver Surfer .

Before that though, we may get a hint for Marvel's first family's big adventure in this year's Deadpool & Wolverine, which releases in July. The future looks bright for Marvel, and should these projects turn out well, we may see more wild crossovers, like Deadpool and Spider-Man on the big screen.

The Fantastic Four will be released in theaters on July 25, 2025
