( WJET/WFXP ) — One of the nation’s most well-known nonprofits is asking the public to join them to help make a difference in the lives of critically ill children in the region.

Make-A-Wish Greater Pennsylvania and West Virginia announced Tuesday they’re accepting inquiries for new volunteers to serve as a source of inspiration for children receiving wishes.

Make-A-Wish said volunteers are essential in helping brainstorm wish ideas and organize local fundraisers along with carrying out any other steps to help kids’ wishes come true.

Volunteers must be at least 21 years of age, pass a criminal background check and attend a training session. Currently, the local chapter is one of the most active in the country, having fulfilled more than 21,000 wishes.

“Being a part of Make-A-Wish has made me grow as a person,” said Megan, a Make-A-Wish volunteer of more than 10 years. “I don’t know a better way to help impact anyone. Getting to help someone’s wish come true is so cool. Nothing brings me joy like meeting a wish kid.”

Anyone looking to volunteer can do so online here and will hear back from the regional Make-A-Wish office with the rest of the process.
