England star Phil Foden has left the national team's camp at Euro 2024 and returned home following a "pressing family matter", the FA have confirmed in a statement

"Phil Foden has temporarily left the England camp and returned to the UK for a pressing family matter,” an FA statement read. Mirror Football understands he is returning home for the birth of his third child

The England star has two children with his partner Rebecca Cooke. Son Ronnie was born in 2019, while Foden was still in his teens, while they welcomed a daughter in 2021.

Ronnie, who has become an Instagram celebrity with millions of followers, revealed in April that his parents were expecting a third child. The family posed with a sigh reading 'Baby Foden', with a photo shared to Ronnie's Instagram account.

Foden, who plays his club football for Manchester City, had played for Gareth Southgate's team against Slovenia on Tuesday. The forward is understood to have left the camp following Tuesday's match in Cologne, where a goalless draw ensured England finished top of their group.

Southgate's team aren't back in action until Sunday, giving the 24-year-old a chance to return in time for the round of 16 match in Gelsenkirchen. Their opponents for the round of 16 tie will be determined after the conclusion of Group E and Group F on Wednesday.

Premier League player of the season Foden started all three of England's group games. He played the full 90 minutes against Serbia, before being withdrawn in the latter stages of the draws against Denmark and Slovenia.

Foden has developed into a key player for England, missing just one match since March 2023. He was left out of the squad for the pre-tournament friendly against Bosnia and Herzegovina, with Manchester City's players finishing their domestic season later than others after reaching the FA Cup final.

The City academy graduate played a key role in his team's title defense last season, while he has four goals in 37 senior appearances for England. One of those four came in a major tournament, when he netted against Wales in the group stages of the 2022 World Cup.

While Foden has yet to find the net at Euro 2024, he played a part in a disallowed goal in England's match against Slovenia on Tuesday. He got in behind the opposition defence before rolling the ball across for Bukayo Saka , but had strayed offside in the build-up.
