The first trailer for Batman: Caped Crusader has been released.

Batman: Caped Crusader is a new DC animated series premiering on Prime Video this coming August. The trailer sees Gotham City overrun by villains such as Two-Face, Harley Quinn, The Penguin, and more, leading the Dark Knight to say there’s “an all-out gang war” he needs to put an end to.

What is Batman: Caped Crusader about?

“It is an all-new animated series and reimagining of the Batman mythology,” the logline for the series reads. “Utilizing state-of-the-art animation techniques, this powerful creative partnership will once again reinvent the character and his iconic rogue’s gallery with sophisticated storytelling, nuanced characters, and intense action sequences, all set in a visually striking world.”

Hamish Linklater (Midnight Mass) voices the titular character in Batman: Caped Crusader. The voice cast also includes McKenna Grace, Toby Stephens, Reid Scott, Dan Donohue, Gary Anthony Williams, Jason Watkins, John DiMaggio, Krystal Joy Brown, Michelle C. Bonilla, Eric Morgan Stewart, Tom Kenny, Minnie Driver, Diedrich Bader, Jamie Chung, and Christina Ricci.

“All the villains come to you with a totally fresh take,” Linklater said. “I mean, it’s a real exciting surprise for the series. I don’t want to take anything away from people’s enjoyment of discovery, but there’s going to be a lot to discover about each one of the characters. And the actors who are playing them are just all phenomenal. Bruce invented Harley Quinn in the original series, so yeah, he’s got every right to do what [he wants]. I mean, the character is really cool this time around.”

Batman: The Animated Series’ Bruce Timm is executive producing Batman: Caped Crusader alongside J.J. Abrams, Matt Reeves, Ed Brubaker, and Sam Register. The series was originally developed for Max, though it was picked up by Amazon Prime Video with a two-season order in March 2023 after Warner Bros. Discovery bowed out.

Warner Bros. Animation, Bad Robot Productions, and 6th & Idaho are producing the series.

Batman: Caped Crusader premieres on Amazon Prime Video on August 1, 2024.
