BTS’ V teases new, ‘Type 1’ project: Everything we know

Despite his current military enrollment, BTS’ Kim Tae - hyung aka V has seemingly been working on his craft. His label, BIGHIT MUSIC, has revealed that a solo project from the singer-songwriter will be released in the coming weeks. But they’ve left us wondering exactly what type of project it’ll be.

In a surprise social media post, V is seen posed against a wall, shirtless as he grabs the waistband of his pants. “I still wonder wonder beautiful story/ Still wonder wonder best part/ I still wonder wonder next story/ I want to make you mine,” the text on the monochrome photo reads, referencing his past solo song “Scenery.” The caption itself only mentioned the project’s pre-order and release dates.

The post came as a surprise to fans, not only because of the abrupt announcement but also due to the steamy nature of the photo itself. “As if we weren't dead enough by now Thanks V!” wrote one fan, with another questioning the validity of the band’s musical hiatus.

So what type of project is actually being released? While most were expecting the project to be that of new music (including the likes of Billboard and Rolling Stone ), it now appears that Type 1 is actually a photography book from V’s personal collection. The book is set to be released in at least two versions and upwards of 200 pages each. The first is a hardcover in the same green shade as V’s microphone during his BTS tours- as teased by the official BTS social media account. The second version is a softcover, which will be more affordable and closer to a magazine aesthetic. All the while, the photos themselves are said to show V behind-the-scenes in his “moments of complete rest, revealing his comfortable and natural self.”

Though a book may not have been expected, photography has always been a mainstay in V’s creative endeavors. The song “Scenery” was even written about his photography- making its lyrics on the first teaser post all the more compelling. In an interview with Rolling Stone just last year, V explained that his photos are part of his art and sense of romance- which includes everything from music to the mundane.

“I tend to really enjoy the atmosphere and the vibe in the scenes of everyday life,” V said. “I think I’m the kind of person to try to find meaning in everything. So whether that means going to beautiful places or eating delicious food or looking at nice scenery, I think that’s what romance is to me.”

Type 1 will be available for pre-order starting tomorrow (6/27), and officially released on July 9 (or what the BTS fandom refers to as ‘Army Day’).
