Costner answered that question for Fox News Digital, but he sounded a bit reluctant about the entire topic of conversation. “I had two unique relationships,” he said of his marriages to Cindy Silva and Baumgartner. “But trying to describe that in an interview and being here to talk about Horizon , I’ll try for you.” That’s when the 69-year-old actor finally offered up his romantic wish list for a future partnership.

“A person who wants to be loved, and they want to be, you know … feel like they’re at their very best. And that love helps that and doesn’t hinder it,” he revealed. That might feel a bit vague, but we take it to mean that he wants to love someone wholly while allowing them to pursue their dreams individually, and together as a couple. That can be a big ask when you are involved with an A-list celebrity like Costner because there are so many demands on their time.

Costner’s first marriage to Silva ended in 1994 after his fame came between them . “I think their relationship as individuals will be okay. They have a common love, their kids, who are the most important thing to both of them. I don’t think they’ll have one of those cutthroat relationships,” a source told People at the time. “It’s just sad because they were the perfect couple.”

The Field of Dreams star’s second divorce from Baumgartner played out in the press because it was contentious. After settling the case last year, Costner is open to finding love again. “My heart? Well, people are supposed to be together,” he told Extra . “So, I’m sure that could happen for me.” He may not be ready right this moment as Horizon takes on the box office, but his heart may open again down the road.
