Still not over it, I guess. Ed Sheeran was a guest on comedian Theo Von's podcast This Past Weekend this week, where he discussed everything from music, to football (soccer), and much more. He comes across as such a genuine, nice guy, and it was a really interesting conversation of course made all the more endearing by his lovely British accent. At one point, part of the conversation turned to all of the political issues going on in both America and overseas in Europe, and it prompted a deeper discussion abut American tradition and how a lot of the things that Americans used to hold dear have kind of faded some, or at least it seems that way in popular media in a lot of ways to outsiders. Sheeran asked Theo if people were still excited abut celebrating the upcoming Fourth of July holiday, and Theo explained that some do see it as more of a negative thing these days, though Sheeran quickly spit out a hilarious fact that I never knew about him. Apparently, he wore a red coat to his first Fourth of July celebration:
"I turned up to my first July 4th in a redcoat... and a flag. Union Jack." I can only imagine the look on everyone's face when the one British guy showed up dressed like a Revolutionary War soldier with a British flag in tow... kind of iconic, honestly. Clearly, he has a great sense of humor, and after  little digging to find out more about this story, it apparently happened in 2015 when he attended Taylor Swift's 4th of July party, according to People . It's actually where he had his first date with his now-wife Cherry Seaborn, who he also knew since elementary school and had long been friends with. And Sheeran still enjoys some uniquely American traditions himself, and has said before that the one and only Luke Combs took
him to Twin Peaks for the first time, and also taught him how to shotgun a beer ... but still, wearing a redcoat costume to a 4th of July party is really damn funny (and brave). You can watch that part of the episode here: https://youtu.be/Guspc7G92Gs?t=2030
