West Virginia Democratic Party Mourns the Loss of Former Chair William E. Watson

CHARLESTON W.Va. (WVDN) — It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of William E. Watson, a dedicated lawyer, public servant, and former chair of the West Virginia Democratic Party. Mr. Watson, who served as chair from 1972 to 1973, recently passed away.

Chairman Watson’s legacy is marked by his  commitment to the values and principles of the Democratic Party. His leadership was instrumental in guiding our party through a transformative period in our state’s history. From his early days as a member of the West Virginia Democratic State Executive Committee in 1967 to his role as chair of the Brooke County Democratic Party from 1968 to 1970, Mr. Watson exemplified the spirit of service and dedication to his community.

As an advisor to Jay Rockefeller, Mr. Watson worked tirelessly to unify and strengthen the party, laying the groundwork for future successes. His efforts extended beyond state lines, as evidenced by his role as a delegate to the Democratic National Convention from West Virginia in 1976. His influence and guidance have left an indelible mark on the West Virginia Democratic Party and the broader political landscape of our state.
