HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) – After a successful summer last year of free museums, the Highland Streets Foundation will once again be offering free admission to museums throughout Massachusetts in the month of August.

The program called August Adventures will give families a chance to explore different museums or cultural institutes at no cost. Each day through the month of August, one museum, zoo, nature sanctuary or historical site will be free to visit.

“As we celebrate our 35th anniversary this year, we are excited to partner with such a wide array of institutions, all of which add to the incredibly rich cultural fabric of our Commonwealth,” said Highland Street’s Executive Director Blake Jordan. “Increasing access and opening doors to wide and diverse audiences are shared goals of all of us and we hope to welcome many visitors during August Adventures.”

Several of these museums are located in western Massachusetts, such as The Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art in Amherst which will have free admission on August 21st.

“We are delighted to be a part of August Adventures and grateful for Highland Street Foundation’s support of this wonderful initiative,” says Executive Director Jennifer Schantz of The Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art. “These special days bring many new families to The Carle to experience joy through the universally beloved medium of picture book art. And we know that visits to any of the participating organizations will be educational, entertaining, and certain to make meaningful memories for those across the Commonwealth.”

Some organizations ask for visitors to register in advance. Here’s when each place will have free admission:
