HORRY COUNTY, S.C. (WBTW) — A “cyber disruption” is preventing about 10% of South Carolina vehicle dealerships from processing electronic registration systems.

“Digital systems at SCDMV were not affected by the cyber disruption affecting the private vendor, which provides electronic registration and other services to dealers. This vendor has no connection to systems at the SCDMV while it resolves its issues,” the agency posted to its website on Friday.

Officials said dealers at affected locations can process registrations manually at branch locations while the issue is being addressed.

The Electronic Registration and Titling (ERT) program allows authorized business partners to apply for titles and registrations on newly purchased vehicles electronically. The ERT system is supplied through a service provider that works with the state DMV.

Since Jan. 18, all dealers are required to issue traceable, temporary license plates at the point of sale, mandating that they sign on with a service provider linking them to the state’s DMV.
