Okay... I actually don't hate this. Today, rapper turned pop punk singer, tuned... who knows what, Machine Gun Kelly, who now goes by simply "MGK," released a cover of Zach Bryan's "Sun to Me," which was included on Zach's 2022 major label debut album American Heartbreak . While I think it flew under the radar in terms of fan-favorites from that project, which featured other songs like "Oklahoma City" and "From Austin," it was an easy standout for me and a really beautiful song. Written by Zach, it finds him reflecting on the unconditional love he receives from his significant other and appreciating the fact that she loves him in spite of all of his flaws and imperfections:
"I don't recall what you were wearin' on the first night we met Besides the subtle cloud around you from my last cigarette And you come from a good place with a happy family The only bad you've ever done was to see the good in me But I've been livin', waitin' on the day That the good Lord willin', send you out my way I've seen hard times, bad luck, all that in-between Sweetest of the sunflowers, yeah, you're the sun to me" To be really honest, I don't know too much about MGK and his music other than that he got started in hip hop and had some beef with Eminem, and also that he was engaged to Megan Fox (or maybe still is? I couldn't figure out if they're still together or not and I majorly digress... ) and has made headlines for some
odd antics with her in the past. Anywho... it's not all that surprising to see him put this cover out, considering how many pop artists have been dabbling in country this year, from Beyoncé to Post Malone , and even Yung Gravy in some very strange form or fashion. But all that aside and strictly focusing on the cover and song at hand, I don't mind this and MGK's fans in the comments section seemed to really love it. Sure, even though it's pretty basic, the production is more than what is on Zach's original, but that's not really saying much because Zach's music, especially from this album, is extremely sparse from a production standpoint. "There’s Your Trouble" :
@mgkmagic country mgk 🤠 his voice so good??? NEED A STUDIO VERSION ASAP. #machinegunkelly #mgk #colsonbaker mgk covers "There's Your Trouble" by American country music band Dixie Chicks (now known as the Chicks) at Spotify House at CMA Fest 2024 - Day 2 at Ole Red on June 7, 2024 in Nashville, Tennessee. 🎥: morgan.wallen.tiktok on tiktok @Mwal ♬ original sound - mgkmagic
I don't know if this means MGK has plans to fully "go country" or not, but clearly he's a fan of it like pretty much everyone else right now. "Sun to Me" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-s5-VXG7Qio
