Céline Dion Tearfully Admits 'Lying' To Fans Before Going Public With Her Diagnosis

When Céline Dion went public with her diagnosis of Stiff Person Syndrome in 2022, she had already been battling it for months, privately. She was touring at the time, on her Courage World Tour, and originally thought she could reschedule the European leg of the tour, but eventually cancelled all remaining dates to focus on her treatment.

But before all of this came out, Dion admits to "lying" to fans about what was going on, before she was "ready" to share the news of her rare neurological disorder with the world. Speaking to the camera in one emotional clip, she said, "When I had to cancel shows we have to tell the crowd and the people why. Lying, I can't lie anymore. "

The lies in question? White ones—barely even lies. She described instances where she blamed the microphone during moments when she couldn't perform , tapping on the microphone to signal technical difficulties, when in reality, she was suffering from the side effects of her illness.

"From a sinus infection to an ear infection to a whatever," she continued. "Sometimes I would point my microphone to the audience and make them sing it. There’s moments where I cheated. "

"The lie is too heavy now," she concluded. Sweet, sweet Céline Dion. Fans were of course, ready to forgive, insisting that the "My Heart Will Go On" singer had nothing to be sorry for.
