TOPEKA ( KSNT ) – The Kansas Judicial Branch is set to make some changes to its website and email system starting next month.

Lisa Taylor, a spokeswoman for Kansas courts, announced in a press release the domain used by the courts will switch from “.org” to “.gov.” This change will take place on July 1 and will impact the judicial branch website, municipal courts web portal, online attorney registration portal and an online attorney directory. Other sites which will be impacted by this at a later date include the following:

    • Kansas Courts eFiling system.
    • Kansas protection order portal.
    • Kansas marriage license application.
    • Kansas District Court public access portal.
    • Kansas Lawyers Assistance Program.
    • Kansas Continuing Legal Education.

The judicial branch will also start changing email addresses for the court system’s nearly 300 justices and judges along with around 1,700 employees. These changes will come in stages by office, county or judicial district over a period of several weeks.

“We researched the benefits of making this change last summer, but we were working on other time-sensitive projects at that time,” Kansas Supreme Court Chief Justice Marla Luckert said. “The Legislature’s action this spring to make it a requirement emphasized that now is the best time to make this change.”

Switching to a .gov domain increases credibility of government websites, allows people to easily identify which websites are associated with the U.S. government and comes at no cost, according to get.gov .

“We’re raising awareness about the change, so no one is surprised, but we expect it to be seamless for the people who depend on our online resources and services,” Luckert said. “At most, we recommend people update their bookmarks as the change is applied, so they reflect our updated domain.”
