Anybody can be a pet parent. Dogs are smart, and they will adapt to your needs. They're used so often for people with disabilities because of their ability to adapt to differing needs and lifestyles.

On Tuesday, June 25th, one Corgi's dad exposed her superpower. Ever since her mom moved in, she's learned all of her favorite signs and can recognize them just as easily as a verbal command. The video evidence is just amazing:

The Signing D must've been expecting this. Eowyn is the smartest girl around!

Eowyn lives with her mom, who's deaf, and her dad, who is a standup comedian. His videos get pretty goods views even when they don't involve the sweet ASL-speaking Corgi , but the videos of Eowyn have definitely gone the craziest. Between the two videos of Eowyn on his page, they've amassed 10 million views!

Apparently, Eowyn is the smartest girl around. She was living alone with her (hearing) dad when her mom moved in. Though he's fluent in ASL, he had no reason to use it regularly around Eowyn... until mom came in. Now, she knows to pay attention to both their words and their hands, just in case. There are a few main signs she knows:

    1. Dinner
    2. Ball
    3. Fail (which her dad is pretty sure she also learned how to spell)

There's another dog in the family, too, but that one doesn't seem to understand sign like Eowyn does. She's just built different!

How do Dogs Learn Sign Language?

Eowyn is one smart cookie, but she's not the only pup who know sign language. Not only do dogs with deaf parents learn sign, but many deaf dogs can be taught some signs, too!

It's actually pretty easy: dogs pick up on your body language just as easily as verbal commands. For example, if Eowyn's mom or dad usually give her dinner while signing the word, she'll learn to associate the motion with her meal. Similarly, if they're playing and one of them signs, "where is your ball?" at her, she's going to pick up on that. If you'd like to teach your dog signs, you can start with basic commands, like:

    1. Sit
    2. Stay
    3. All done (great for play!)
    4. Walk
    5. Dinner
    6. Ball

You can train them to respond to signs just like you train them to do other tricks. You just have to be consistent and use lots of praise and treats , and eventually, they'll get the hang of it!
