After Maryland saw record high temps this past weekend, temps continue this June to push close to 100. Kent County Chief of Emergency Medical Services Logan Quinn shared, the most important thing the community should know is to stay hydrated with water and electrolyte beverages before, during, and after spending time outdoors.

Staying in shaded areas, or areas with a breeze will help with natural cooling, Quinn said. Activities at the beach can be tricky — while the water may be cool and refreshing, extended time in direct sunlight can quickly dehydrate anyone. It is imperative that even if you feel cool from the water, continue to hydrate and take breaks from direct sunlight.

Over the weekend, Kent EMS responded to one heat-related emergency over the weekend, Quinn said.

Quinn recommends following the American Red Cross’ Extreme Heat Preparedness Checklist.
