Lisa Kudrow is connecting with her late friend and castmate Matthew Perry by watching him do what he did best—make people laugh.

The Phoebe Buffay actress is currently binge-watching Friends from start to finish, which is something she hasn’t done for years. In the past, she’s admitted that she doesn’t enjoy watching her work because she’s her own biggest critic.

However, the 60-year-old recently decided to break her rule and watch the hit sitcom because it is her way of “celebrating how hilarious [Matthew] was.”

“Honestly, I wasn’t able to watch it because it’s too embarrassing to watch yourself,” she told Hollywood Reporter . “But if I make it about Matthew, then that’s okay.”

Matthew Perry tragically and unexpectedly passed away in October 2023 at only 54. Matthew was famously close with his other co-stars, and they’ve all found their unique ways of honoring him in death. For Lisa, it is “laughing out loud” at how “hilarious” he and the cast are.

“I’m blown away by Courteney Cox. I’m blown away by Jen [Aniston],” she continued. “Matthew, obviously, is just uniquely hilarious. No one ever knew that cadence or comedic rhythm before him. Matt LeBlanc is hilarious. And David Schwimmer, too. Sometimes I even laugh at what I’ve done.”

Lisa Kudrow Recalls Her Favorite Memories With Matthew Perry

Lisa Kudrow reminisced about some of her favorite moments from Friends , including the episode titled The One Where Everyone Finds Out , which was when the characters realized that Matthew’s Chandler Bing and Courteney’s Monica had been secretly dating. It was Matthew who came up with some of the most hilarious moments.

But overall, Lisa’s most cherished memories are made up of simply spending time with some of her favorite people.

“You’re just laughing all day long, basically, in between the scenes because these are funny people,” she added. “And especially someone like Matthew, whose goal was, ‘How many laughs can I get in real life every day?’ So we were always laughing so hard, tears were flying out of our faces.”
