A member of the Tigard Budget Committee has been appointed to the Tigard City Council.

On Tuesday night, June 25, the council named Jake Schlack as the newest member of the Tigard City Council, serving from July 1 through Dec. 31. He will serve that six-month term to fill a portion of the remaining term of Councilor Jai Raj Singh, who announced his immediate resignation from the council May 3.

The council had previously agreed to let voters decide who they wanted to serve the remaining two years of Singh’s term by going to the polls in November.

In addition to Schlack, the council interviewed three other council appointee hopefuls: Faraz Ghoddusi, Barrett Johnson and Neha Neelwarne.

“I am honored to be appointed to the City Council,” Schlack said in a statement posted on the city’s website. “I look forward to working with my fellow council members and the community to continue making Tigard a great place to live and work. My experience on the Budget Committee has given me a deep understanding of our city's financial landscape, and I am eager to bring that knowledge to the Council.”

For the last two years, Schlack has served as the chair of the Tigard Budget Committee. Employed as a senior product analyst for DAT Freight & Analytics, he also works as an independent contractor for the Tigard Water District.

“Jake Schlack has shown exceptional leadership and dedication to Tigard through his service on the Budget Committee. His expertise and passion for our community will be invaluable on the City Council. We are fortunate to have him step into this role,” Tigard Mayor Heidi Lueb said in the same statement.

Schlack said he plans on running for the remaining two years on the term.

Two other council terms also end Dec. 31. Those include Councilor Jeanette Shaw’s 4-year term and Councilor Maureen Wolf’s 2-year term.

Wolf was elected to fill the remaining two years on Lueb’s term because Lueb was required to resign effective Dec. 31, 2022, to run for the mayor’s seat.
