    Thousands still without power morning after severe storm in North Jersey

    UPDATE: North Jersey left to clean up mess after severe thunderstorm

    With wind gusts up to 70 mph, severe thunderstorms moved through North Jersey on Wednesday knocking out power to over 50,000 of people.

    The issues continued into Thursday morning with thousands of people still without power.

    Morris County and Sussex County power outages

    Morris County was hit the hardest with power outages with over 14,000 people in the dark as of noon. Sussex County also had over 4,700 people without power.

    Towns with over 1,000 people without power in Morris included Boonton, Hanover, Jefferson, Mount Arlington, Parsippany, Rockaway and Roxbury.

    Warren County had over 6,400 customers without service for JCP&L.

    Essex County had over 1,000 people in the dark for JCP&L and another 1,000 for Essex for PSE&G.

    Other North Jersey power outages

    Bergen and Passaic counties had fewer than 1,000 customers each without power.

    Severe thunderstorm watch

    A severe thunderstorm watch was issued Wednesday for North Jersey and parts of New York, Connecticut and Pennsylvania until midnight.

    Downed trees in North Jersey

    Downed trees were impacting roadways throughout the region. The NJ Department of Transportation is reporting:

    • Interstate 287 southbound, near Exit 34, has the right lane closed in Morris Township by a felled tree.
    • On Route 206 in Andover a downed tree has all lanes closed.
    • On Interstate 78 eastbound, near Exit 33, the right lane is closed by a tree in Bernards.

    In Bergen County, there were reports of several trees falling on homes.

    In Passaic County, there were reports of trees down on roadway, including Macopin Road and Ridge Road.
