Kevin McCarthy Does U-Turn on Biden’s Mental Faculties, Now Says the President Is ‘Gonna Be Prepared’ for Debate with Trump

Less than two weeks after casting President Joe Biden as a confused dotard, former Speaker Kevin McCarthy now warns that Biden will be fully prepared for Thursday’s debate with Donald Trump .

Earlier this month, McCarthy recalled his interactions with Biden from his time as Republican leader in the House.

“He’d always go with the cards,” McCarthy told Jesse Watters on Fox News. “So what I learned early on, he has to read from them, and once he starts reading, I would interject, and then he didn’t know what to do and he would stumble, and then he would close it and just stop, and then Kamala would have to start talking. So it was a play I used every time.”

McCarthy went on to say Biden insisted on showing him his swimming pool in the dead of winter.

“I’m like, what are we doing?” the former speaker recalled.

On Wednesday’s Jesse Watters Primetime , however, McCarthy said Biden will be on his A-game.

“He is taking this serious[ly],” he said. “He has spent one week at Camp David only focused on debates. People are throwing questions at him left and right. Think about the number of hours he’s gone just for these 90 minutes. I have dealt with this man when he was a senator, when he was a vice president, and when he was president.”

McCarthy went on to say that every time he met with the president he “got a different Joe Biden.”

However, the ex-speaker said, Biden was often sharp.

“And there’s times that he was really engaging,” he continued. “I remember talking to him on Air Force One coming back from a G7 meeting and he could tell me all the different meetings he had. He was fully engaged, and the next day, I met with him and it was a totally different Joe Biden talking off cards. So, let’s not lower expectations. He’s gonna be prepared, the best he’s ever gonna be prepared.”

The Trump campaign is reportedly concerned that the former president and his allies have “ lowered the expectations ” for Biden too much, and that any halfway competent performance could be hailed as a smashing success.
