PHOTOS: St. Luke Community Day in Henrico celebrates launch of new youth program

HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — A community day held at the St. Luke Apartments in Henrico County celebrated the launch of the youth-focused CONNECT program within that community.

This St. Luke Community Day, held from 1:30 to 4 p.m. on Wednesday, June 26, was organized by state senator Lamont Bagby and Henrico county officials. Attendees got to enjoy games, music, free food and more as they celebrated the launch of the CONNECT program.

This program provides kids in five communities with enrichment opportunities, mentorship, engagement and educational resources, according to the county.

Jacquelyn Smith-White, prevention program manager for Henrico Area Mental Health and Developmental Services, said this includes things like homework help and advocating for both school-age children and their parents at schools.

“[We’re] giving them the support that they need to know that their voice does matter,” Smith-White said.

During this event, Bagby reportedly presented a check for $1.2 million to Henrico for the development and expansion of CONNECT.
