WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) – A 19-year-old man was critically injured following a crash involving a motorcycle and a vehicle. The crash happened just before 10 p.m. near Kansas Highway 42 and Ridge Road.

The Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office said a man driving a motorcycle hit a vehicle while street racing.

“There was a group of motorcycles riding eastbound on K-42. One of them attempted to engage in street racing, took off at a high rate of speed, and collided with another eastbound vehicle,” Sgt. Matt McElwee, Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office, said.

The man was taken to Via Christi St. Francis Hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The sheriff’s office says street racing has been a problem in the area.

“The street racing has been a pretty prevalent issue down here. So this kinda goes to show the dangers of it,” McElwee added.
