After being contacted by the county’s emergency management coordinator, these groups are facing the intense heat to help people. They are there to organize debris, cut down trees and stack them for easy pickup.

“So, we have a list of 10 sites that have been damaged.” Jeff Spelman, with Minuteman Disaster Response, said. “Blown down trees, very large trees, that [people] either don’t have the resources or don’t have the ability to take care of themselves so were here to do that for them.”

The organization is a faith-based group that has been helping people since 2011 and their mission is to help others.

“Our intent is really to shed the light of Christ and hope into people who could use some hope.” Spelman said.

A county received help from the crews and reported a great experience.

“I’ve never seen any assistance like that in my life” Douglas Pelham, a Van Zandt County resident said. “It was just absolutely amazing; I was just really really impressed.”

He submitted before and after photos to help show the group’s great work and wanted to emphasize how important it is to the community.

The Van Zandt County Fire Marshal Emergency Management said residents in need of assistance are asked to first report it to the state on iSTAT then request help. People can also email vmcalister@vanzanndtcounty.org to be added to the list.
