Socially speaking: New Jersey loves social media, Instagram, TikTok

It's a great day to be social.

June 30 is World Social Media Day, so you might want to start sharing, reposting or liking everyone's status to celebrate.

And if you're in New Jersey, you'll probably enjoy the day.

According to a study by BetMaryland.com, New Jersey ranks sixth for states most obsessed with social media nationwide.

New Jersey comes in behind California, Nevada, Maryland, Washington and Oregon.

It also says the Garden State's favorite sites are Instagram and TikTok. Of the top five, California's favorite sites are X, Instagram and TikTok. For the other four, the top site is X, formerly known as Twitter.

Rounding out the top 10 are Virginia (X), Georgia (Youtube), New Mexico (X) and tied for the 10th spot are Hawaii (TikTok), Louisiana and Michigan (both X) .

The bottom five states are Iowa (Youtube), West Virginia and South Dakota (both Facebook), Wyoming (Facebook and X), and ranking dead last, Nebraska (X).

BetMaryland.com used Google Trends data for various major social media platforms – Facebook, X, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube and Reddit – to find out which states used social media the most over a 12-month period (June 12, 2023 to June 12, 2024).
