These 10 States Fear Deepfake Technology the Most

It’s your likeness in a video you don’t recognize—and not just your physical appearance. It’s your voice, too. Artificial Intelligence (AI) is sweeping through the modern world, revealing just how polished it’s gotten in only a few short years. Pair it with machine learning (ML) and you are inundated with videos and images of people you recognize—except it’s not them.
Deepfake technology takes an individual and targets them, gathering a massive dataset of everything related to that person. Whether it’s an image, a video, or an audio file, deepfake tech collects it and uses it. Once all the data is collected, the AI model moves forward with training, slowly bridging the gap between what’s real and what’s fake. Deepfake tech doesn’t just target well-known people like celebrities. This could happen to you.
This is a method by which false narratives are spread, using indistinguishable images and videos that can easily fool the public. The technology is so advanced that even those closest to you would have a hard time deciphering between the deepfake version of you and the real, in-the-flesh you. Interestingly, not every state is concerned about this new technology and its potential repercussions.
In fact, there is one particular state that is the most concerned about deepfake technology. This state searched related terms at a rate of 68% higher than the national average. Several more states are close behind, with residents using the internet to peel back the confusing layers of all AI is capable of. They’re certainly onto something and the sooner they wrap their minds around the extent of this tech, the better informed their mitigation efforts can be. (After this article, check out How Technology Has Changed the World Since 2010 .)
