Michelle Obama Reportedly Refusing to Campaign for Biden Over Mistreatment of Hunter’s Ex-Wife

New reporting from Axios suggests that Former First Lady Michelle Obama is declining to campaign for President Joe Biden over his family’s mistreatment of Hunter Biden’s ex-wife Kathleen Buhle.

According to the story, Obama and Buhle developed a friendship during Barack Obama’s presidency that persists to this day.

Buhle testified in court during her ex-husband’s gun trial and had previously angered the family by exposing lurid details of his life — including his use of drugs and enjoyment of prostitutes — in divorce filings in 2017 and a book published in 2022.

“President Biden and much of the family deeply resented that Buhle wrote a memoir in 2022 that largely focused on her marriage with Hunter and his addictions, people familiar with the dynamic,” Axios reported earlier this month during Biden’s trial. Buhle and Biden are still locked in a legal battle over between $1.7 million and $2.9 million in unpaid alimony and legal expenses.

Per the newer story, Obama has privately “expressed frustration over how the Biden family largely exiled her close friend Kathleen Buhle after Buhle’s messy divorce from Hunter Biden” and “the family tensions — and the former first lady’s disdain for partisan politics — are partly why one of the Democrats’ most popular voices hasn’t campaigned for President Biden’s re-election,” even though her husband.

Biden spokesman Andrew Bates told Axios that “The Biden nd Obama families are like family to one other, and whomever made these claims about that relationship isn’t familiar with it,” but a flack for Obama did not necessarily deny the report and instead simply “reiterated that the former First Lady supports Biden’s re-election and added: ‘she is friends with Kathleen and with the Bidens. Two things can be true.'”

In her book, Buhle recounts Biden repeatedly trying to hide his drinking problem from her and growing angry at her when she confronted him about it. She also tells the story of how she discovered that Biden was cheating on her with his brother’s widow, Hallie Biden.

“This news, in some ways the very most damning, seemed to sit placidly on the surface… I felt a strange sense of vindication. Not only had I not been crazy, but it was so much worse than I could have imagined,” she wrote.
