The Walking Dead’s Andrew Lincoln is set to lead the British thriller Cold Water, which is due to premiere on ITV. The project, which is also executive produced by Lincoln, marks the actor’s first British television role in over a decade.

What is Andrew Lincoln’s Cold Water show about?

Cold Water, which also stars Ewen Bremner, Indira Varma, and Eve Myles, sees Lincoln playing a man named John. A repressed man in his middle age, John is secretly unhappy and raging at his life as a stay-at-home dad. John moves to what’s described as a backwater Scottish village and, while there, strikes up a friendship with his next-door neighbor Tommy (Bremner).

Tommy is despised by his wife Fiona (Varma). And once Tommy’s relationship with the mysterious new neighbor becomes increasingly intense, Fiona grows more suspicious. Eventually, she becomes convinced that everything is not what it seems to be.

Cold Water is written by David Ireland, an accomplished playwright. It’s produced by Eric outfit Sister, which was behind the recent Netflix limited series Eric. Ireland previously wrote the Sky series The Lovers and he’s also known for playing Sean Devlin in the acclaimed comedy Derry Girls.

The thriller will be executive produced by Chris Fry, Alice Tyler, Lydia Hampson, Jane Featherstone, Ireland, and Lincoln. Brian Coffey will produce. ITV Studios will be behind international distribution. More casting announcements and production details are expected to be announced, with filming slated to begin later in 2024.

Lincoln is, of course, well-known for his role as Rick Grimes in the long-running Walking Dead franchise. He recently reprised the role for The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live, opposite Danai Gurira. He is also well-known for his memorable performance in the popular Richard Curtis romantic comedy Love Actually. He also has a list of credits in British television, appearing in the drama This Life and the sitcom Teachers early in his career. His last British television outing was the Sky series Strike Back, opposite Richard Armitage, in 2010.
