They don't miss. Today, 49 Winchester released a new song called "Tulsa" from their forthcoming album Leavin’ This Holler , which was written by frontman Isaac Gibson with a nod to the Don Williams classic "Tulsa Time," as well as the Kenny Rogers and The First Edition favorite "Tulsa Turnaround" in the chorus. Gibson says he wrote is back in 2022, after leaving a show at the Mercury Lounge in Tulsa, Oklahoma. They were driving through a blizzard and slid on the road which was a "sketchy situation altogether." He added that his anxiety was high that night for more reasons than one:
"This song is a rock & roll'er with an interesting backstory. I wrote it on a frigid night in 2022, leaving a show at the Mercury Lounge in Tulsa. It was in the middle of a blizzard on the way to a run of shows through Texas. The interstate was covered in snow; we jack-knifed the van and trailer sideways on the road and it was just a sketchy situation altogether. My anxiety wasn't helped by the fact that Oklahoma had recently legalized a plant we've been known to be fond of, and that's ultimately where the song comes from. It's one of those snapshots of a moment in time in my life, where I just put pen to paper to ease my mind." Additionally, the band has released "Yearnin’ For You" and "Fast Asleep" from the album. Hailing from southern Appalachian in the small town of Castlewood, Virginia, 49 Winchester has developed an incredibly unique sound that’s a mixture of southern rock, folk, roots rock, country, to put it quite simply, and have quickly become one of the hottest new band’s in country music because of it. After spending a decade grinding out on the road and quite literally playing everywhere, frontman Isaac Gibson says it hit him last October while standing on stage in front of 20,000 people at London’s 02 Arena that it had been exactly 10 years since he started the band:
“There’s been nothing in my life that’s ever lasted a decade. We had just gotten out of high school when we played our first show — 10 years later, we’re on the road in the UK and Europe with Luke Combs.” He continued, saying that it’s finally starting to feel like that hard work is paying off and their beginning to see the fruits of their labor, if you will: “It’s a testament to the uncommon fact that we’re musicians from a very specific place in the world. And it’s a testament to viewing each other more as family than as friends.” And now, they’re ready for the next evolution of that journey with the aforementioned new album, which was produced by the band alongside Stewart Myers, and features appearances by the Czech National Symphony Orchestra, Maggie Antone and more.
