    150 years ago

    June 27, 1874

    • On Friday night of last week, about 9 o’clock, a fire on the premises of Capt. Edw. B Woodall, two miles above Chesterville on the road to Galena, destroyed his barn, stables, granary, carriage house, shedding, and other outbuildings, and it was with the greatest difficulty that his large new dwelling was saved.

    June 28, 1924.

    • The Public Service Commission in order to settle a bus war between contending parties that wanted to run to Tolchester, came to Chestertown Thursday and held a public meeting in the Court House.

    June 26, 1974

    • Kent’s plans for a central sanitary landfill site appear to be nearing completion, and a leasing agreement is expected shortly between the County and landfill operator Laurence J. Nicholson.

    • Eleven County men received fines of $25 to $50 in District Court last Tuesday as a result of an illegal crap game on May 10.

    • Walter Harris believes in the power of people. His swift reaction to an advisory from Aberdeen Proving Ground, announcing plans to begin disposal of 400 unexploded munitions on Monday, spurred action that put an indefinite halt to the project.

    • Voter turnout for primaries in Kent County for the last two elections has been significantly lower than the November turnout so it should come as no surprise that lines were scarcely reported by poll workers, Tuesday, June 24.
