U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg recently announced that Vinn White has been named deputy administrator of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) and will also serve as the agency’s acting administrator.

“It is an honor to take on this role, and I thank Secretary Buttigieg for his trust and confidence in my ability to lead the important work of FMCSA,” White said. “Our agency is focused on enhancing safety for all roadway users, and I am committed to working with safety partners across the commercial motor vehicle industry to get this work done.”

White previously served with New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy, working closely with the New Jersey Department of Transportation, Motor Vehicle Commission, NJ TRANSIT, and the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.

He also has worked for the U.S. Department of Transportation as acting assistant secretary of transportation for policy, and deputy assistant secretary. In these roles he coordinated the agency’s initiatives on emerging transportation technologies, led development of the agency’s innovation principles and helped launch the Transforming Transportation Advisory Committee.

He also currently serves as the department’s acting chief artificial intelligence officer.

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration is responsible for the prevention of crashes, fatalities, and injuries involving large trucks and buses.
