Do starfish count as seafood? Assuming they do, this gluttonous seagull was trying to scarf down some seafood and it didn't go all that well. Gulls are notorious for having eyes that are bigger than their stomachs, or in this case, bigger than their mouths. This starfish proved to be more of a challenge than the bird anticipated. As disturbing as it can look, seagulls swallowing things whole is rather commonplace. That's simply how they consume their food. If it fits in their mouths and they can work the prey down into their stomachs, gulls will eat just about anything - and all in one bite, might I add. Don't believe me? Just check out this video of a
seagull swallowing a squirrel (yes, a squirrel) whole, or this footage of a gull gobbling up a baby shark right in front of some horrified kids. They'll eat anything - and I mean anything - that is available to them. And once they get them down in their stomachs, seagulls digest the nutrients and then regurgitate the nasty, non-nutritional stuff back up in pellet form. Nature is beautiful, isn't it? I doubt you'll be thinking that when you watch this somewhat disturbing clip below. The seagull in this footage was just going about its regularly scheduled seagull activities, meaning it tried to swallow something that was a little too big all in one bite. This time, a starfish was the meal of choice, and it wasn't going down easy. From the looks of it, the starfish was still
very much alive as the gull tried to wolf it down. That may have contributed to the difficulty the bird had trying to get the seafood down into its belly. It's honestly very uncomfortable to watch, so I can only imagine how taxing the attempted starfish consumption was for the seagull. With that being said, it doesn't look to be bothering the bird all that much. Sure, it's probably thinking, "Boy, what did I get myself into today?" But it's still walking around rather calmly and trying to figure out the next steps. You've got to give this seagull some credit for its sticktoitiveness.
