When it comes to family pets, the first animal you think of might be a dog. After all, pups are known for being social and playful, and we've all seen countless videos of dogs and kids having the time of their lives together. But cats deserve credit for being excellent companions, too...even if they're not always in the mood for human hijinks!

In a hilarious video posted on June 25, a toddler boy is reading his two cats a bedtime story. They're all snuggled up together, he's wearing his pajamas...it's a picture perfect moment, except for the fact that one of the cats has the grumpiest look ever on his face!

"Let's call this story Next Time," wrote @freddyandbobby . At least he was reading with enthusiasm (even if his efforts were lost on furry pals!). Maybe "next time" they'll be more entertained. Commenters couldn't get over how calm the cats were while the little boy read to them.

"Love how they are both zonked out during the rage read," wrote living.dead.girl93.

"The chillest cats ever," wrote morganjohn32.

If this video is making you think that your family might need a kitty or two, experts say there are plenty of reasons why having a cat can be good for children.

How Having a Cat Can Benefit Kids

Felines are known for being loners, but kids often develop close relationships with the family cat , according to Care.com.

"A new kitty can quickly become your child’s devoted friend. 'Contrary to popular belief, cats really like human companionship,' says Anthea Appel, an animal naturopath in New York City. In fact, some cats are very social, to the point where they love to follow their owners around the house and watch them work.

A cat can also teach your child a lot of important life lessons. For instance, 'a cat can help your child practice good social skills,' says Dr. Jane Brunt, a feline specialist and member of the American Veterinary Medical Association. Your child will quickly learn that she’ll need to approach the pet slowly and speak to it in a calm voice, says Dr. Brunt."

Having a cat can even help your kid to deal with stressful situations, as the "vibration of a cat's purrs are therapeutic." Plus, pet cats teach children how to respect another creature's feelings and take care of them.

"Your little one can learn how to respect and care for others by gently petting your cat, stroking his ears and listening to his purrs. As cats tend to be quite solitary in nature, your child will need to learn how to sit tight and relax until his furry friend is ready to play."

Plus, cats might even stick around to listen while your kid reads a story...even if they're not thrilled about it!
