Ma$e recently took a trip down memory lane, recalling a time when late rapper Big L allegedly set him up to be robbed. Sharing the story on his and Cam’ron’s It Is What It Is podcast, the Harlem native claims the incident was not the only time his rap peer put him in harm’s way.

The impromptu storytime was sparked when Cam’ron remembered once going to meet with Ma$e and Big L. The Killa Season rhymer was late, but upon arrival, Ma$e claimed Big L attempted to have them robbed, per Complex . Cam’ron, Ma$e, and Big L were all once members of the 1990s hip-hop collective, Children of the Corn, alongside McGruff and Bloodshed.

“I gotta go back to the first time,” shared Ma$e. Cam’ron responded , “Hold on, he tried to get you robbed on numerous occasions?!”

“I mean, if you go online right now you’ll see a story about Fat Joe talking about how me and L got into it, you know?” Ma$e continued . “I told L, ‘I’ll knock you out, ni**a. You faking, ni**a. You know I know you, ni**a.’ God Bless. He went and got Fat Joe on me, he went and got some Bronx ni**as ’cause he couldn’t find nobody.”

Ma$e described a time at a New York City hot spot where it all went down detailing, “Joe see me and Joe’s like, ‘I ain’t doing nothing to that ni**a,'” adding, “So then a couple months later, we get into it again about something and… I think it was over a chick or something.”

He continued to elaborate on another run-in allegedly orchestrated by Big L.

“A Spanish n***a just run out of nowhere like, ‘Yo give it, give it up, n***a, I’mma kill both of y’all n***as,'” he recalled, sharing that he was with his longtime friend, former NBA player God Shammgod.

“So I’m looking at Shamm like, ‘He don’t have me right now,'” he recalled. “You know, we play basketball so we, pause, communicating with our eyes. Like, ‘Ni**a, I’m about to run.’ … Shamm got the look like, ‘Ma$e, stop playing.’ I give him back the look and this is happening in like 30 seconds, fast communication. I’m looking at the ni**a like, ‘This my first [Rolex]. I can’t just give it up like this.'”

The story continues to reveal Ma$e let the watch go, although months later he retrieved the timepiece from law enforcement.

In Sept. 2022, Fat Joe discussed his involvement in a run-in between Big L and Ma$e during an appearance with Angie Martinez on Hotboxin’ with Mike Tyson . Telling his side of the story, the “Lean Back” performer claimed Big L called him to settle a dispute at a night club, without telling him the beef was with Ma$e.

“Now, one time I got set up, rest in peace Big L,” Joe began. “[He] comes up to me in the Tunnel, he’s like, ‘Yo, Crack, yo, come bring your n***as, I got some beef.’ So, we come, Big L’s our brother, you know, since Diggin’ in the Crates. And when I come up, it’s fu**in’ Ma$e! He’s arguing with Ma$e! They from the same block!”

Fat Joe continued to describe how Big L issued threats at Ma$e looking at him exclaiming “Right Joe?”

“I don’t think Ma$e ever trusted me again in my life after that,” he admitted. “That sh*t was foul.”
