Fostering animals is a bucket-list item for pet parents everywhere. While adopting a pet is amazing, fostering a pet can be equally as rewarding, if not more. You can save more pets if you foster, which is why so many people have dedicated years to doing it.

On Wednesday, June 26th, one foster mom shared the first moments between her Frenchie and her newest foster cat, Freya. They don't look like they'd be a good fit at first glance, but as it turns out, they're perfect for each other:

Freya and Emmett 🥹❤️ We have decided to name her Freya the Precious. Freya because Freya is the goddess of love and magic and is pulled in a chariot by two cats (a nod to gollum and dobby❤️) and Precious for gollum 💍. Her and Emmett have completely hit it off. We are so shocked at how quickly they are bonding. " Good Boy Emmett " is the perfect username for this boy. He's perfect in every way!

Emmett himself was a foster pup! His mom works with Roadogs Rescue in Southern California, which is where she got him and Freya. Since he was just adopted in late May, he hasn't had time to have more than one foster sibling: he needed time to adjust.

It's been about a month, though, and his mom decided to introduce the first of many fosters into the mix: a Sphynx cat named Freya. She's as unique as Emmett is: her coloring is just gorgeous, and in all of the other videos she's posted of the pair, we can see that Freya loves Emmett just as much as he loves her. I'm sure they'll be sad to see her go!

Three Things You Shouldn't Say to Someone Fostering Animals

Humans are human, after all, and when we see a sweet animal blending perfectly into their foster home, it's only natural that you wonder if they should keep them there. However, from a young age, we're taught about "inside thoughts" vs. "outside thoughts," right? Here's an example of three things foster parents hear that should really remain inside thoughts:

    1. "Are you going to foster fail?" Most foster parents do not foster fail, and by asking the question, you'll usually be told no. That sets the foster parent up for ridicule.
    2. "I could never foster animals, I'd get attached!" Foster parents get attached to the animals every time, too. You'll find that foster parents often keep up with the animals for the rest of their lives!
    3. "You should adopt them!" The more animals a person has in their home, the less likely they are to keep fostering. Foster homes are vital to h elping as many animals be adopted as possible.

Even if you have the best of intentions with your comments, they can be harmful both to the foster parent and other prospective fosters , too. Instead of all of that, you can say things like, "you're doing such a good job," or, simply, "thank you!" As much as Emmett loves Freya, I'm sure he'll love his future foster siblings just as much!
