An individual found themself in a tricky situation when trying to figure out how to tell their roommate that they were a bit smelly.

Not knowing how to break the news, they decided to turn to Reddit to figure out how to let the housemate know that her odor was overwhelming the apartment.

They wrote: “Hi everyone, I have a roommate who’s nice, clean, and keeps to herself. The issue is she has a really strong odor that takes over the apartment, making me feel like I’m about to gag.

“When she leaves her bedroom door open, you would think someone left the toilet open after taking a s—.

“I rent her a room month-to-month, and I don’t want to ask her to move out because of this. However, I’m starting to wonder if it would be wrong for me to consider that as an option due to the persistent smell.

“I’m just looking for solutions. Yes, I have air fresheners, and due to the AC, we can’t keep the window open without letting the cool air out. I burn candles a lot, but the smell is still here.”

Reddit users flooded the comments section with solutions to the smelly situation.

With an explanation, one person said: “Some people have a condition that causes you to build up a certain compound over the day that you sweat out and it smells really bad. Can't for the life of me remember the name of the condition but maybe she has that? I've heard it's difficult for people with that to ever really smell good. They may be doing everything right like showering, taking out trash, cleaning their space, etc but it doesn't make a difference.”

Another person chimed in: “My brother was like this. He wasn't the cleanest but also wasnt the worst. Turned out to be a large amount of bacteria on his skin breaking down sweat into some bad odors. What resolved the issue mostly was when we had him try antibacterial body wash. I never comment on this sub but saw this and wanted to at least mention the body wash, because that worked for my brother who also had that issue.”

With a simple solution, someone else said: “Just tell her she smells.”

An additional individual said: “I would just ask "im sorry to be rude but what is that smell?" and move on from there.”

And someone else added: “You’re an adult, she’s an adult. Have the conversation. Allowing it to continue to the point you’re uncomfortable in your own home is on you. It’s a crappy conversation to have, but it’s needed for both your sanity and her wellbeing.”
