A recent scam targeting Oklahoma households is falsely claiming Section 8 has reopened its waiting list through a fake Facebook page, the Oklahoma Housing Finance Agency reported.

Through a fraudulent link, scammers claim the Housing Choice Voucher Program, or Section 8, has reopened its waitlist and asks residents to provide their personal information or visit the OHFA in person.

OFHA's housing voucher program waiting list has not reopened, the agency stated on its website. The federal government program assists low-income families, elderly folks and people who are disabled to afford housing.

The agency warned that any messaging reporting such information is false, and information provided through the link could be used to harm a person's identifiable information.

OFHA is working to get the fraudulent account removed from Facebook as the scam has impacted households across the U.S.

Announcements indicating the list's reopening will be made through a press release, the OHFA website and on OHFA's social media pages, including facebook.com/oklahomahousingfinanceagency.
