    Severe thunderstorm downs trees, wires in Brockton area: Latest damage reports, outages

    BROCKTON — A severe summer storm swept through the Brockton area Wednesday night and into Thursday morning, bringing down trees and wires across Southeastern Massachusetts, according to the National Weather Service (NWS).

    Much of Massachusetts, including Plymouth County, was under a severe thunderstorm warning from 11:15 p.m. until 12:15 a.m., NWS Meteorologist Andy Mash said.

    More rainfall and a few rumbles of thunder came through the area after the warnings expired, bringing in anywhere from a quarter of an inch to an inch and a half of precipitation in towns across Plymouth County, according to Mash.

    A tornado warning was also issued for Plymouth County and Bristol County from 11:25 p.m. to 11:45 p.m., Mash said.

    “There are no flooding reports that we’re aware of in Plymouth County, but we did have wind damage reports in Raynham and Bridgewater, he said.”

    Thousands of residents in Plymouth County and Bristol County are still without power after the storm took down wires and trees, according to National Grid's outage map .

    Here’s the latest storm damage, power outages and more from these seven Brockton area towns.

    Bridgewater

    A lot of trees and wires were downed across Bridgewater by 11:48 p.m., according to the NWS.

    The Bridgewater Fire Department was not immediately available to comment on the extent or location of damage at the time of this article’s publication.

    As of 10:40 a.m., 474 out of 10,633 National Grid customers in Bridgewater are without power. The company estimates that power will be restored by 12:15 p.m.

    Brockton

    There was no storm damage reported in Brockton by the NWS.

    “We skated out of it pretty clear last night,” Deputy Fire Chief Kevin Galligan said. “We were all ready to go and there was no storm damage,” he said.

    East Bridgewater

    There was no storm damage reported in East Bridgewater by the NWS.

    “We did have a couple calls for downed wires but no serious damage,” Fire Lieutenant Matt Foster said.

    As of 10:40 a.m., 74 out of 5,744 National Grid customers in East Bridgewater are without power. The company estimates that power will be restored by 12:00 p.m.

    Easton

    There was no storm damage reported in Easton by the NWS.

    The Easton Fire Department was not immediately available to confirm this at the time of this article’s publication.

    As of 10:40 a.m., 168 out of 10,213 National Grid customers in Easton are without power. The company estimates that power will be restored by 11:45 a.m.

    Halifax

    The town of Halifax was one of the communities hit the hardest by the storm, with about 90 percent of the town losing power for nearly 12 hours.

    More than 2,000 customers were without electricity on Thursday morning, but started being restored late in the morning.

    As of noon, 1,045 customers were still without power in Halifax, with a restoration ETA of 6:45 p.m.

    Raynham

    In Raynham, several trees were downed across town, according to the NWS.

    One tree was downed on Broadway (Route 138) located by the dog track, according to Fire Lieutenant Jason Karns. The storm also downed a tree on King St. that temporarily blocked the road and a tree on Ramblewood Dr. was struck by lightening, Karns said.

    A small brush fire was started when the storm downed a wire near a home on Prospect Hill St., but no injuries were reported, according to Karns.

    Stoughton

    There was no storm damage reported in Stoughton by the NWS.

    The Stoughton Fire Department was not immediately available to confirm this at the time of this article’s publication.

    West Bridgewater

    There was no storm damage reported in West Bridgewater by the NWS. Fire Chief Lincoln Thibeault confirmed that there was no storm damage.
