The newest Gerber Baby has been chosen – even his father was surprised

It’s time to meet the new Gerber Baby for 2024.

Gerber, the early childhood nutrition company, has officially announced the winner of the 2024 Gerber Baby, a news release said. The winner of the 14th annual Photo Search is chosen through a panel of Gerber employees and, for the first time ever, parents of past Gerber Babies.

This year’s star is Akil McLeod, called Sonny. He and his family live in Arizona, and he recently celebrated his first birthday .

His mom Dominque submitted the photo to the committee, which perfectly captured his bright smile and joyful energy. According to Today, she did so secretly, figuring the odds of winning were low.

Even Sonny’s father, Akil McLeod Sr., and big sister Sage were surprised.

Dominque told Today: “What are the chances, right? I didn’t even think about it until we received the email and I was like, I should probably tell Akil.”

The release said Sonny loves reading his ABC books, playing with his toy cars and watching football with his family. One of his favorite games is to play Peekaboo with his sister.

“Every day it’s an honor to watch Sonny conquer so many tiny achievements, from giggles, to trying new foods, to standing up and everything in between. He’s a light in our lives and brings joy to everyone around him,” said Dominque said in the release.

“We couldn’t have asked for a better way to celebrate his first birthday than to be chosen as the 2024 Gerber Baby. We look forward to all the adventures in the year ahead collaborating with Gerber to share his sweet smile with families across the country.”

As the winner, Sonny will be featured on Gerber’s social media channels and marketing campaigns for 2024. Sonny and his family have also been awarded a $25,000 cash prize, free Gerber products for up to one year, a new wardrobe provided by Gerber Childrenswear.

Gerber will match the cash prize and donate it to support March of Dimes’ maternal and infant health programs as well.

The family will receive additional prizes from Brooklinen, Canon, UPPABaby, Little Tikes, Motherhood Maternity, and ezpz.
