Puppies have boundless energy and optimism for days, while older dogs can sometimes be set in their ways and find that they're not interested in newcomers. Some connections take time, and for a Mastiff named Bowser, it's going to be a process to get used to his new puppy brother Benny.

A June 25, 2024 TikTok video shared by Bowser The Mastiff ( @bowserthemastiff ), shows the delicate way Bowser reacts to having a puppy in the house. See their initial meeting and the days after!

The 3-minute clip opens with the first introduction between curious Benny and a very reluctant Bowser. He sits back while the family holds the newest member but ultimately is not ready to interact or accept this little baby is here to stay.

The video captioned, "Not sure," continues with Day 1, showing Benny on the bed while Bowser enters the room to get a good look before leaving. By Day 2, titles, "Warming up," Benny is so excited to sniff and attempt to play with his big brother, but the gentle Mastiff politely declines. He does, however, lay down to observe this massive ball of energy and on Day 3 captioned, "Benny wants to play," Bowser allows the pup to be in his space (though without playing).

Progress is slow, but by the follow-up videos posted for Day 4 and Day 5 , sweet Bowser has started to warm up to Benny, even play bowing to show things are going to be okay. Thanks to a supportive family always standing guard to make sure Bowser feels their love, this could be the start of a wonderful friendship—and many viewers agree.

"Bowser doesn’t know how big he is lol scared of a little baby. So cute!!" one person wrote. "Bowser isnt sure but he still makes sure to be gentle. Such a good big brother!" another remarked. "Justice for bowser lol. Eventually he will like the new addition," another joked.

Why Are Mastiffs Considered As"Gentle Giants?"

Mastiffs often look like big, burly predators but the reality is, they're actually giant cuddle bugs. While they can grow in size to be 120-230 pounds, VetStreet says the Mastiff's gentle temperament makes them a great dog breed for kids and other pets. Likewise, their protective nature make excellent guard dog for any family.

Bowser's already proving he's earned the title of "Gentle Giant." And, as he and Benny spend more time together, he'll surely become the best big brother there is.
