Garden hack using empty wine bottle is ‘most genius thing’ and will water plants evenly every time

A woman is sharing a hack to evenly water all the plants in your garden.

With this trick, you won’t need to worry about over or under watering. The plants will take as much water as they need.

TikToker @thebalancedfoodblog shared the watering method in a recent video. To achieve this, all you need are terracotta spikes and an empty wine bottle.

The caption read: “A must have in the garden for me, gives plants and their roots the perfect amount of water.

“They are inexpensive and do not take a lot of space. Perfect if you cannot water the garden daily.”

The gardener showed how they do it. Place the spikes sporadically throughout the garden . If you’re using planting pots, you can just place one or two for the entire pot, depending on the size.

Then fill the wine bottle with water, and place it upside down in the terracotta spike. Water will seep out of the spike and into the soil for the plants to absorb.

Terracotta spikes can be purchased on Amazon for a cheap price. A pack of 10 costs about $28.

People in the comments of TikTok were excited to try the hack.

Another explained the origins: “This stems from a Native American technique where they would bury these big bellied terra cotta vases essentially and water them to keep the soil and roots wet! So amazing.”

Someone else said you don’t need the terracotta spikes, revealing they “use wine bottles, but I just stick them in with no stakes needed. Works perfectly!”
