Is it too early to set up decorations for Halloween? Probably, yes. It is too early to prep for Halloween? Not at all!
If you want to carve your very own homegrown pumpkins this year, then this is your sign to get started! In order to have plump orange fruit by October 31st, you're going to want to begin the process, ASAP. Once you get the tedious part of planting over, then all you have to do is wait!
Watch below to see learn how to start your pumpkin planting process and how to get the best harvest of all time.
If you ever wonder how some pumpkin patches end up with perfectly plump pumpkins just in time for Halloween, then this is the video for you. You don't have to own an entire Charlie Brown-esque pumpkin patch in order to grow your own. And no, it's not too late to plant them!
In order for pumpkins to fully mature in time for the October festivities, you should definitely start planning in May but if you are in a moderate climate, you have until early July to get the seeds in the ground. So for some of you, you're just in time. Most pumpkin seeds packets will say how many days until harvest, so the easiest way to plan your patch is to make sure the harvest date is about a week before Halloween and not any earlier. You don't want your pumpkins to rot before the holiday!
As TikTok creator Sabrina ( @sabrina.sustainable.life ) reminds us in her caption for this video, Halloween is only 126 days away! Sabrina is one of our favorite gardening creators on the Internet right now and she shares all of her top tips and tricks for her over 200,000 followers. From square gardening planning to pest control, this girl has so much helpful advice up her sleeve.
One of those pieces of advice? To get started on your pumpkin patch before it's too late!
3 Things to Remember When Planting Pumpkins
Once you've got these down, you're golden.
1. Make sure to plant your pumpkin seeds several feet apart and not right next to each other. Double check what your specific variety recommends first!
2. Pumpkins require full sun to make sure to plant your seeds in an area that will be drenched in sunshine. No shade, please!
3. These plants need a ton of water to grow so remember to water them everyday and possibly twice a day if it's super hot out.
