Dachshund Watching Mom Do 'Surgery' on Shredded Toy Has Everyone in Stitches

If you have a chewy breed, you're no stranger to a torn-up dog toy, shredded often across the room from its stuffing, which is basically coating the floor. Usually, we don't bother to fix them up - they're too far-gone.

However, one dog mom refused to give up so easily. After her Miniature Dachshund had accidentally ripped a hole in his favorite toy, she decided to do her best to repair it instead of just tossing it out. Don't worry, he was there to oversee the whole thing:

I appreciate @subithesausage's mom's commitment to preserving her pup's favorite toy. He definitely didn't want anything bad to happen to it!

Chase, Subi's brother, is the one who tore this dog toy to bits. Subi definitely loves to tear things up (as all Dachshunds do), but Chase takes it to another level. He's even earned a special spot in the TikTok bio, shouting out his nickname: Raptor Boy. Chase is always ready to bite something.

On this day, though, he went too far: he tore a hole in his favorite donkey toy. This is when most people would just toss the toy, since they'll just continue tearing it out. Eating the stuffing or the squeaker is not good, not at all, but they will do it. But his mom had a different idea: she sewed that toy right up and gave it back!

Does Sewing Up Dog Toys Actually Work?

Sewing a dog toy will definitely close the wound, and it can be helpful. Dog toys are expensive, so if it's a small enough hole, there's no harm in stitching it back together - as long as you do it right.

If you sew up the hole and properly stitch in the ends of the threads so they're not sticking out, your dog will have as hard of a time pulling the toy apart again as they did the first time. A talented enough sewer could even make their own dog toys!

Sewing only works on certain types of toys, though: soft, fabric toys. Toys made with rubber, plastic, or Kevlar can't be sewn up - or if they can, it can't be expected to last. If you want to sew up a dog toy, make sure that your stitches are nice and tight so their teeth won't be able to get between the threads. At the very least, it'll last you a few more days.

Against Chase's raptor teeth, though, the surgery probably won't help much. Maybe, soon, he can get a whole new one to destroy!
