Oak Ridge Fire crews work to safeguard homes

(PUEBLO/CUSTER COUNTIES) — Crews at the Oak Ridge Fire are not only battling against it in tough terrain but are also fighting to protect homes around Middle Creek Canyon.

Have you wondered what crews are doing to protect homes? According to a post, the main action of the structure protection group is to “plumb” a structure with hose lines and a sprinkler system that is attached to a portable pump. The “plumbing” creates humidity and reduces the risk of the structure burning.

The group has also expanded assessments of values at risk in areas that coincide with contingency planning efforts.

“One of our overarching goals is to not only have a plan A, but a plan B, and plan C in case unpredictable weather or fire behavior occurs,” said the statement on Facebook. “Structure protection is a key element and consideration when developing these contingency plans.

As of Thursday, June 27, the fire near Beulah remained at 1,025 acres. Fire crews are working hard to get the remaining fire perimeter in the northern and western portions. To the south, air resources continue to battle the fire as it is in steep and rugged terrain which is not safe for crews on the ground.
