Sam Greig, senior designer at furniture company Swoon , revealed his dos and don’ts for summer.

Greig emphasized the importance of being prepared so you don’t get caught up in the heat.

His tips for staying cool in warmer weather work for both day and night.

He also recommended sticking to certain types of furniture to stay comfortable when temperatures rise.

    GOLDEN ADVICE

Greig said that certain daytime rituals can make all the difference.

“Firstly, it is a great idea to keep your curtains drawn during the day to keep the sunlight, and therefore the heat, out,” he said.

“A quality pair of heavy-duty curtains or blackout blinds will do the trick — and there is nothing wrong with having a little fun with the design while you’re at it.”

He recommended paying extra attention to where you lay your head at night.

“Additionally, you should consider your bed linen,” he advised.

“Heavy synthetic materials are almost guaranteed to create a clammy atmosphere when the temperature begins to rise, so instead switch your summer sheets to a cotton alternative.

“Cotton is great at wicking moisture, and will therefore help you to stay cooler during the night.

“Opt for the highest thread count fabric you can, as the higher the count, the smoother the experience.”

Greig did not stop there, he recommended sleeping on the right mattress as well.

“Your duvet and mattress also have a massive impact on your temperature whilst sleeping,” he said.

“During the summer, opt for a lower tog duvet, meaning it will be lighter on your body and will allow more airflow.

“Changing your mattress is a long and awkward process, so instead of storing seasonal sleeping equipment, you can actually select a mattress topper that is adequate for the weather.

“A cooling gel topper is a great option for a full night’s rest — no matter what Mother Nature decides to throw at you.
