When you have a destructive dog, you'll do basically anything you can to get them to chill out. Unfortunately, destructive tendencies are often taken out on our furniture, clothes, and carpets. We need something to stop it.

On Saturday, June 22nd, one mom was at her end with the destruction. Nothing was working: her Bully could tear through almost anything, and he wasn't going to stop. It wasn't until she offered him a coconut that he finally slowed down a bit:

Day 2 and still going strong best 90p spent. DISLAIMER. PLEASE SUPERVISE YOUR PET. DONT LET THEM EAT HUSK OR THE SHELL. COOCNUT MEAT AND JUICE SHOULD BE GIVEN IN MODERATION

Bruce the Bully is so funny. I'm glad his mom finally found something that works, though!

Bruce, like most other Bully dogs, loves to shred. His strong jaws are made for tearing, and he can't help his instincts. Even the toughest of chew toys are no match for him, and they may not be enough to satisfy him anymore - his mom needed a new idea.

So, she spent the US equivalent of about $1.27 and bought her boy a coconut. It still has the husk on, and he's having a lot of fun tearing that off, but as far as the shell goes... he can't crack it. Coconuts typically take actual tools, like a knife or even a screwdriver/hammer combo to open. No way Bruce's teeth are getting through that, and even a full day later, he has not been able to get it open!

Are Coconuts Safe Toys For Dogs?

Bruce is having a lot of fun with his coconut, even if he can't quite crack it. However, some commenters are concerned: eating the husk and shell would be bad. They don't want sweet Bruce to get hurt!

They have a point: the husk could pose a choking hazard for a dog, and sharp pieces from the shell could puncture their esophagus. If you want to try this with your dog, you should be sitting right there to supervise them and removing pieces from their mouths as they manage to chip them off.

Additionally, after your dog is done with the toy, you might want to give their teeth a quick glance just to make sure none have chipped or broken. Since they can't really sink their teeth into the coconut, it shouldn't cause too much of a problem, but it's better to be safe than sorry.

Once they've gotten bored, you can break it open and feed them some of the actual coconut meat and juice, too! It's super hydrating, but you should also be careful, since it's pretty high in sugar and too much can upset their tummies. Not that Bruce will ever get there.
