When the end credits roll on Season 3 of FX’s hit series The Bear after an agonizing cliffhanger, you may find yourself cursing towards the sky just like Carmy in his final scene.

After spending a majority of the season waiting to learn The Bear’s fate from The Chicago Tribune ‘s restaurant review, the make-it-or-break-it article comes out in the season’s final seconds. Carmy speed-reads the critic’s thoughts. The Computer and Unc know what was written. But viewers? All we get are a flash of scrambled buzzwords designed to keep us guessing until the series returns with new episodes. Rude!

So will The Bear return for Season 4? Has FX canceled or renewed The Bear already? And when could The Bear return with new episodes? Here’s everything we know about the future of the hit series, including comments from the cast made at FX’s The Bear Season 3 press conference on Monday, June 24.

Will There Be A Season 4 Of The Bear On Hulu?

Yes, chef! Well…it looks like yes, chef! Back in March, ahead of Season 3’s premiere, Deadline reported that multiple sources confirmed the series had been quietly picked up for a fourth season. Though FX hadn’t officially announced a renewal at the time, thanks to the “TO BE CONTINUED” screen at the end of The Bear ‘s Season 3 finale, we know there’s more of Storer’s story still to come. The question is, when will new episodes premiere?

Though there’s no official word on when the Season 3 cliffhanger will be continued, based on The Bear ‘s first three seasons, it’s easy to predict when The Bear might return for more. Season 1 debuted on June 23, 2022. Season 2 dropped on June 22, 2023. And Season 3 premiered on June 26, 2024. If we had to guess, we’d say The Bear , FX, and Hulu will stick to their successful summer release. However, what we’re about to reveal has the potential to shake up the premiere date a bit.

When Did The Bear Season 4 Film?

Per Deadline , The Bear Season 4 filmed back-to-back with Season 3 in Chicago, which means there’s a chance new episodes will be edited and ready to go long before June 2025. During a recent appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert , Jeremy Allen White revealed the show had only wrapped two weeks earlier. It’s unclear if he meant Season 3 filming or beyond, but Deadline also noted “Chatter about The Bear filming additional episodes beyond Season 3 started percolating in Chicago local outlets ” so perhaps some — if not all — of Season 4 was already shot.

At FX’s The Bear Season 3 press conference on Monday, June 24, the cast was asked point-blank if Season 3 and Season 4 filmed back to back. Here’s what they had to say.

Jeremy Allen White: We did something like that.

Ayo Edebiri: Yeah, a little version of it, sort of. But not exactly.

    Jeremy Allen White: Not exactly.

Ayo Edebiri: Is that helpful for journalism?

Abby Elliott: You’ll have to find out.

Do with those incredibly vague responses what you will. But while we eagerly await more details on The Bear ‘s future, let’s think about what The Bear Season 4 could look like, shall we?

The Bear Season 3 Ending Explained: What Will The Bear Season 4 Be About?

If you’re looking for a detailed recap of The Bear ‘s Season 3 finale, “Forever,” Decider’s Ending Explained article has you covered. But if you only want a recap of the major Season 3 loose ends that could be tied in Season 4, here are some storylines the series will likely explore.

First things first: The Chicago Tribune ‘s make-it-or-break-it review. Season 3 ends with Carmy glancing at his phone, seeing two missed texts and three missed calls from The Computer and four missed calls from Cicero. He also gets an alert that The Bear review finally dropped, so he speed reads it, lifts his head, and says “MOTHERFUCKER!” before the end credits roll.

With a mix of positive and negative buzzwords highlighted on-screen, it’s intentionally hard to tell which way the review leans. Unc made it clear that the restaurant will be shut down if the response is negative, so a bad review would certainly warrant the expletive. But after Carmy’s challenging season and his heart-to-heart with Chef Terry, who’s closing Ever, I think a part of him — the part that hesitates to put fires out because he thinks what lies on the other side of the blaze could be easier — was ready to take a negative review and pack up The Bear. If the review was positive, however, I imagine the realization that he and his fellow chefs can continue pursuing the dream, that a Michelin star is within reach, and that his work isn’t done quite yet would also inspire him to drop a cathartic curse word.

We’ll have to wait and see which way the wind in the The Windy City blows for The Bear, but the series will also have to have Sydney decide to stay with Carmy or go with Adam Shapiro. We’ll hopefully see what becomes of the Ever employees after the restaurant closes. (Garrett and Chef Jess, please report to The Bear.) Chef Luca said he’s in town for a few months, so there’s a chance he’ll be back. Sugar and Pete will be adjusting to life as new parents. The Berzatto and Fak families will hopefully reveal new members and keep making amends. And there’s even potential for a Tiff and Frank wedding. Oh yeah, and what about Carmy and Claire?!

There’s clearly lots left to explore in Chris Storer’s beast, so here’s hoping we get more info on The Bear ‘s continuation soon.

The Bear Season 3 is now streaming on Hulu.
