IKEA is the bread and butter for all homeowners on a budget. Their product inventory is constantly changing- which always leaves plenty of rotating options open for consumers. Their entire lineup has a minimalist Scandinavian feel, making it perfect for a “time-capsule” house, meaning your furnishings and decor never really go out of style. A lot of their products not only are perfect as is, but they are also perfect for DYing , as many home DIYers and flippers alike rant and rave over IKEA products as the bones of their project structure.
Now while there is usually a primary focus and popularity around IKEA’s larger items like the Kallax Unit for DIYs , there are some really good small hidden gems in the store that just don’t get the rants and the raves that they so desperately deserve. One creative DIYer showed how she used a simple IKEA placemat to make the cutest summer accessory. Check it out below!
FANS IKEA HACK WITH CRICUT Advertising* I usually can’t go without the great coasters from Ikea. But since we already have so many of them, I thought to myself that I could make something great with my @cricut_de. So I quickly turned the PENNFISK coaster into two fans. These are coming with me to the next festival. I’m really impressed that you can even embellish materials like this with my smart cutting machine, the Cricut Joy Xtra. I used Smart Iron On for this and my EasyPress Mini which was perfect for that small project. If you want to copy the project, you can find the template in my Design Space profile (Judith Jelena DIY). This woman is a genius! Not only is this fan cute and easy to make using an IKEA placemat but it is perfect for summer picnics, weddings, or music festivals, providing fashion and functionality to your look!
Our Favorite IKEA Finds
IKEA’s showroom floor is filled with big eye-catching items, like chandeliers, rugs, bedding, and eccentric chairs. But sitting between all these larger items are bins that host some of the best goodies found in the entire store. Below we list a few of our favorite areas that you should be on the lookout for next time you make a trip to your local IKEA!
Cooking spoons: IKEA’s entire kitchen section is filled with the coolest gadgets, the most aesthetically pleasing dishware, and some pretty fantastic wooden cooking utensils. Perfect for the eco-mama, and cottage core lover alike, these wooden cooking tools are not only cute but very inexpensive.
Throws. Because the best way to dress up any boring couch is with a relaxed throw, maybe not one you would use, but one the couch would. Ikea has a great selection strewn about in their bedding section!
